Ernest Leslie Konnyu
Republican, California (1987-1988)
The Honorable Ernie Konnyu was accused in 1987 by two former members of his Congressional staff and a congressional lobbyist of sexual harassment. An unnamed staffer complained that Konnyu told her to remove a name tag because it drew attention to her breasts, which he was said to have described as small. Another ex-staffer said that in a discussion of her office attire, Konnyu allegedly instructed her to stand up and turn around so he could look her over.
A lobbyist scolded Konnyu in a Washington bar for touching her knee and for his conduct toward women.
California voters did not like to hear about official shenanigans. Konnyu was defeated in the California primary, the only incumbent to lose in a primary.
Konnyu is a member of the Congressional Sexual Harassment Caucus.
