Jack Abramoff

Fraud and conspiracy for purchase of fleet of SunCruz casino boats in 2000; he presented lenders with counterfeit document showing that he put in $23 million into deal.  Plead guilty, Jan. 5, 2006

Influence peddling and fraud.  Bilking Indian tribes out of millions of dollars

5 years, 10 months-the minimum allowed under federal guidelines for role in fraudulent purchase of casino cruise boats.  Pay $21.7 million in restitution;  3 years probation after release. (Mar. 30, 2006)

 

Pled guilty in January 2006.  Sentence, Sept. 4, 2008, in U.S. federal court to 48 months in jail.

 

Michael Scanlon

Former top aide to DeLay plead guilty to conspiring to bribe public officials in Nov. 2005;  will pay $19.7 million in restitution to Indian tribes. Awaiting sentencing.
Tony Rudy

Pleaded guilty, former top aide to Tom DeLay, pleaded to one count of conspiracy and agreed to cooperate with the Feds. (Mar. 31, 2006)  Accused of blocking legislation in exchange for a bribe.  
Neil Volz

Former top aide to Bob Ney and Abramoff, pleaded guilty to conspiring to corruptly influence Ney's official actions by showering him with gifts and trips.  (May 8, 2006). Sept. 13, 2007:  gets two years probation and $2,000 fine
David Safavian

Former White House aide convicted (June 20, 2006) of four counts of lying and obstruction of justice concerning Abramoff golf outings. Received 18 months prison term, Oct. 27, 2006.
Bob Ney

Plead guilty to two-count corruption charges (Sept. 13, 2006).  Entered formal plea on Oct. 13.

 

 

Sentenced to 30 months in jail, Jan. 19, 2007.  (Judge gave him more time in jail than prosecutors recommended). Served 17 1/2 months, and was released August 15, 2008.  Welcome back to the land of the living, Bob.

 

 

 

William Heaton

Plead guilty to corruption charges of accepting gifts, gambling chips, and trips abroad.  He was Ney's chief of staff (2001-2006). Plead guilty to single count of conspiracy On August 16, 2007, Heaton sentenced to 2 years probation, $5000 fine, but no jail.  Heaton cooperated, and wore a wire while in Ney's last year of office.  He could have receive 18 months or 2 years in prison and $250,000 fine.
Mark Dennis Zachares Plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the public by steering clients and inside information to Abramoff.  
John Albaugh Plead guilty to conspiracy to defraud the House;  could receive up to 24 months in prison.  For eight years was chief of staff to Ernest Istook (R-Okla).
